California Adoptees

Hey California Adoptees! I know that you're out there! Its time for us to begin gathering and coming together. It is time for us to work towards open records. Together, and only together can we do this. Speak up and join forces! Let us know you're here!

Don't worry, we ordered the birth certificate. I guess it's just coming from a different office.

We have a semi-open adoption. We met our son's birthmother (she chose us), and we send pictures and letters quarterly for two years and then either once or twice a year until he's 18.

We'd love to have visits and his birthmother said she would like to also, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen anytime soon.

We'd also love to hear back from her when we send the letters, but I respect that that's her decision. I wish we had a picture of my son's birthfater and more information on him (we do know his name and the city he lives in) as well as pictures of my son's siblings (one full, three half).

I hate the idea of sealed records, and I'm excited that you're doing something to change the system!

Okay, I just realized you meant original birth certificate :) No, we don't have that, and by law, only Steven (when he's 18) and his birthparents can request that. I already asked.

It might be because we only have a semi-open adoption instead of a completely open adoption; I'm not sure. We're not supposed to know any last names, but we found out theirs when it wasn't blacked out on some of the paperwork.
